Privacy Policy
Effective Date: September 10, 2026
Thank you for using Sonotion (the “App” or “Service”).
This Privacy Policy is issued by the operator of the App (“we”, “our”, or “us”). We respect your privacy and are committed to protecting it. This Privacy Policy explains what information we collect, how we use it, when it may be shared, and the choices available to you.
By using the App, you acknowledge that you have read and understood this Privacy Policy. Your use of the App is also governed by our Terms of Use.
1. Who We Are
The App is operated by an individual developer.
Controller
Individual Entrepreneur Ihar Yafremenka Iv. Javakhishvili Street, 91, 2b, 0112, Tbilisi, Georgia
Contact: ihar.yafremenka@gmail.com
If you have any questions regarding this Privacy Policy or your personal information, you may contact us using the email above.
2. Scope of this Policy
This Privacy Policy applies to the Sonotion mobile application and related services provided by us.
It does not apply to third-party services that may be linked from the App or integrated into the App. Those services have their own privacy policies.
3. Who Can Use the App
The App is intended for users who are at least 13 years old.
We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under the age of 13. If you believe that a child has provided personal information to us, please contact us so we can take appropriate action.
4. Information We Collect
We intentionally minimize the amount of information we collect.
4.1 Information You Provide
The App does not require:
- creating an account;
- registering;
- signing in;
- providing your name;
- providing your email address;
- providing your phone number.
The only information you actively provide is an optional, self-reported English proficiency level during onboarding. This is used to set a sensible default summary frequency and is described in Section 5. Aside from this, we do not collect personal information directly from you during normal use of the App.
4.2 Information Collected Automatically
When you use the App, certain technical information may be collected automatically.
This may include:
- device model;
- operating system version;
- app version;
- language settings;
- country or region derived from your device settings or network information;
- anonymous device identifiers generated by analytics providers;
- diagnostic, crash, and performance information;
- usage statistics;
- install source information provided by Google Play, where your installation came from an advertising campaign or a referral link.
Some of this information is generated by the operating system or by the app store platforms — for example, crash, stability, and performance reports that Google Play or the Apple App Store make available to us when you have enabled that sharing on your device — and some is generated by our analytics provider.
This information does not directly identify you.
4.3 Listening Progress
Your listening progress is stored locally on your device.
This includes information such as:
- last opened book;
- last played audio segment;
- playback position;
- selected summary language;
- selected summary frequency;
- your self-reported English proficiency level.
This information remains on your device. Your English proficiency level is additionally sent to our analytics provider as described in Section 5; the remaining listening-progress information is not transmitted to us.
5. Analytics
We use Amplitude to better understand how the App is used. Amplitude processes this information on servers located in the United States. Where this involves transferring personal information out of the European Economic Area, we rely on appropriate safeguards for such transfers, such as the Standard Contractual Clauses approved by the European Commission.
Amplitude may collect anonymous usage information, including events such as:
- app launches;
- onboarding completion;
- book selection;
- playback start and pause;
- summary playback;
- summary settings changes;
- general interaction with the App.
In addition, we record your self-reported English proficiency level (for example, Beginner, Elementary, Intermediate, or Advanced) as an anonymous analytics user property. This value is used to set your initial summary frequency and to understand feature adoption. It is not linked to your identity and is not used to identify you.
We also record how the App was installed. When you install the App from Google Play, Google may provide a referrer string describing how you reached the store listing — for example, the advertising campaign or referral link you came from. On Android, the App reads this value once after installation and sends the campaign parameters it contains (source, medium, and campaign name), together with the referrer string itself, to our analytics provider as anonymous user properties and a single corresponding event. We use this only to understand which channels bring people to the App. It describes the installation, not you; it is not linked to your identity and is not used to build an advertising profile. Installations that did not originate from a campaign or referral link carry no referrer, and in that case nothing is recorded.
The purpose of analytics is to:
- improve usability;
- identify bugs;
- understand feature adoption;
- improve future versions of the App.
We do not use analytics to identify individual users.
6. Backend Infrastructure
The App uses cloud infrastructure to deliver its functionality.
Supabase
Supabase is used as the application’s backend infrastructure for:
- catalog metadata;
- book metadata;
- audio sequence information;
- summary metadata.
Supabase is not used to store your listening progress or create user profiles.
Amazon Web Services (AWS)
Audio content is stored and delivered using Amazon Web Services (AWS), including content delivery network (CDN) services.
Requests for audio files may result in standard technical information (such as IP address, request timestamps, and technical connection data) being processed by AWS for the purpose of delivering content securely and efficiently.
Such processing is performed as part of AWS infrastructure services.
7. Artificial Intelligence
Artificial intelligence is not used during your use of the App.
Specifically:
- your listening activity is not sent to AI systems;
- your device does not communicate with language models;
- your personal information is not processed by AI services.
Artificial intelligence is used only during the offline preparation of content before publication within the App.
This includes:
- narration generation;
- creation of summaries;
- text-to-speech synthesis.
These processes occur before content becomes available to users.
8. Public Domain Content
The App includes audiobooks derived from literary works that are in the public domain.
Although the underlying literary works may be in the public domain, the following may constitute original protected content:
- audio narration;
- summaries;
- audio production;
- editing;
- compilation;
- artwork;
- metadata.
Nothing in this Privacy Policy grants permission to reproduce or redistribute such materials.
9. How We Use Information
We use collected information solely to:
- operate the App;
- deliver audio content;
- improve performance;
- diagnose technical issues;
- analyze anonymous usage patterns;
- measure which acquisition channels bring users to the App and attribute installs to marketing campaigns;
- maintain security;
- comply with legal obligations.
We do not use collected information for advertising profiling.
10. Advertising
The App does not display third-party advertising.
We do not sell advertising space.
We do not build advertising profiles.
11. Sale of Personal Information
We do not sell your personal information.
We do not rent your personal information.
We do not trade personal information.
12. Sharing Information
We may share limited information only with service providers that help us operate the App.
These providers currently include infrastructure and analytics services.
They process information only as necessary to provide their services.
We do not share personal information with data brokers.
13. International Data Transfers
Our service providers may process information in countries other than your own.
Where required by applicable law, we rely on appropriate safeguards for international transfers of personal information.
14. Data Retention
Because we do not maintain user accounts, we generally do not retain personal profiles.
Analytics information is retained according to the retention policies of our analytics provider.
Listening progress stored on your device remains until:
- you uninstall the App;
- you clear the App’s local storage;
- your operating system removes application data.
15. Security
We take reasonable technical and organizational measures designed to protect information processed through the App.
All data transmitted from the App to our service providers is sent over encrypted connections (HTTPS/TLS).
However, no method of electronic transmission or storage can be guaranteed to be completely secure.
Accordingly, we cannot guarantee absolute security.
16. Your Rights
Depending on your jurisdiction, you may have rights including:
- access to personal information;
- correction of inaccurate information;
- deletion of personal information;
- restriction of processing;
- objection to processing;
- data portability;
- withdrawal of consent where processing is based on consent.
To exercise these rights, please contact us using the email address provided in this Privacy Policy.
17. European Economic Area (GDPR)
If you are located in the European Economic Area, we process personal information only where we have a lawful basis, including:
- legitimate interests;
- compliance with legal obligations;
- your consent, where required.
You may also have the right to lodge a complaint with your local data protection authority.
18. California Privacy Rights
If you are a California resident, you may have rights under applicable California privacy laws, including the right to request access to or deletion of personal information, subject to applicable exceptions.
We do not sell personal information.
19. Third-Party Services
The App may rely on third-party services, including infrastructure and analytics providers.
Their handling of information is governed by their own privacy policies.
20. Changes to this Privacy Policy
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time.
If significant changes are made, we will update the Effective Date above.
Continued use of the App after changes become effective constitutes acceptance of the revised Privacy Policy.
